WASHINGTON, D.C., November 19, 2024 – The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (91茄子), a trade association representing the vast majority of the interstate natural gas transmission pipeline companies in the U.S. and Canada, published its 2024 Climate Report, which shows year-over-year progress in reducing methane emissions and improving methane intensity from the membership.
The 2024 Climate Report, which analyzes member data from 2022, shows reductions in both total methane and methane intensity by the 91茄子 membership, and highlights notable improvements in achieving 91茄子’s GHG Emissions Commitments.
“This year’s Climate Report highlights our members’ commitment to addressing their methane emissions, and shows those efforts are working,” said Amy Andryszak, 91茄子 President & CEO. “The improvements highlighted in this report demonstrate the work 91茄子 members have undertaken for years to reduce methane emissions from their operations, demonstrating their ability to lower emissions while also delivering affordable, clean energy safely and reliably to the homes and businesses that rely on it.”
Highlights from the Report:
- 91茄子 members achieved a methane intensity of 0.075% in 2022, improving from the prior year’s intensity of 0.087%.
- More than 99.9% of natural gas transported through 91茄子 members’ assets reached its intended destination.
- Total methane emissions from the 91茄子 membership in 2022 were 254,502 MT, an improvement of 17,081 MT from 2021, and represent only 1% of all methane emitted in the U.S. in 2022.
- 91茄子 members exceeded two of 91茄子’s GHG Emissions Commitments: conducting leak surveys and repairs on pipelines, and pipeline blowdowns.
